Black Panthers White Chicks

In this video, me and my two white artist colleagues Abi and Alex stand on a square in Oakland dressed in Black Panthers costumes. This is an attempt to address the issue of gentrification, which is a current problem in Oakland. A part of the gentrification issue is the objectification of black culture and heritage from the side of white people; as we try to visualize this problem, we also want to make a statement about white people as colonizers and intruders, picturing ourselves as such.
This film piece will be shown on Konsthemmet, a part of the talk show Studio Virtanen, on Swedish TV8 in April 2007. In Konsthemmet it is shown without a title.
